TINY TOTS

ADD OBSERV.png

Tiny Tots is about utilizing all that you’ve learned about your growing child and helping you use that information to do something beyond just what you’re seeing. Parents and caregivers make mental notes about new discoveries and skills their children have developed and Tiny Tots allows all the caregivers to put those notes in one place for everyone to access. Then Tiny Tots gives relevant articles based on what they’ve reported on such as what’s expected to come next in their child’s growth. It transforms all the data that’s been tracked and allows for it to be helpful in moving forward.

Tools: Adobe XD and Photoshop

Tiny Tots is a mobile app that allows parents and caregivers to collaboratively log in their child’s developmental milestones and progress. From there, Tiny Tots would also suggest other developments to look out for and other categories they lack notes on. It helps take the information that they have and use it to further their learning about their children and what’s expected to come next.

PERSONAS & USE CASES

Who are we designing for?  The village it takes to raise a child! Children are cared for by parents, guardians, grandparents, nannies and the list goes on. And everyone sees something different about the child. Also caretakers are busy, especially parents juggling a hectic job and a child who developing rapidly! Often there's a quick rundown of the child's day when the child goes from one caretaker to the next but there's only so much one can remember to relay. So who exactly are we designing for and what are their needs?

Sandra Winston

Sandra is a working mom, juggling her demanding career as the VP of Sales at Lyft as well as being a first time mom with a 18 month old. She has her mom watch her daughter on Monday, Wednesday and Friday as a nanny on Tuesday and Thursday. With a few people providing regular care for her daughter, a lot of the exciting devleopemtn get lost in communication and Sandra wants to be as knowledgable about her daughter as much as she can.

As a working parent who has lots of people caring for my child, I want everyone’s observations on my child to be in one place so that it’s convenient for me.

Charlotte Hickman

Charlotte is a full time nanny for Sandra’s family.  She has spent 15 years as a preschool teacher but recently moved to a new area to be closer to her adult children.  With her background, she’s very familiar with the demands and development of a toddler.  She’d love to get back into evaluating and observing child development within her new job as a nanny.

As a nanny, I want to give parents the best care by making sure they’re constantly involved so that parents continue to learn about their child while away.

Sam Richardson

Sam is a new parent who is struggling with where to start on this new lifestyle. He's got lots of advice from his friends with kids as well as his own parents and in laws. It's becoming overwhelming very quickly as sometimes it's about developments that won't be of focus for another 12 months. While it's valuable but it's quite as relevant to what's going on for his 9 month old daughter.

As a new parent, I want to learn more about my child based on all their specific specs so that I can be more informed for the future.

Of this mood board, the light colors bring an easy-going light to the interface much to bright colors associated with children and their learning. By muting the light and bright colors, it makes the interface not overwhelmed with effervescent colors but engaging for a variety of user ages. Muted yellows are very welcoming while not being in your face. Blues and greens are calming especially in a situation that can be stressful like raising a child. It keeps the idea of looking towards the future calming, exciting

and manageable!

As users look to find a more inclusive and streamlined way to collect entries beyond a journal, keeping simple and clean sans serif fonts will be easily read between different age gaps of caretakers. It's easy to read, clear and succinct.

REFLECTION

This project was inspired by working at the ASI Children's Center in my last two years of school. It was such an incredible experience and I learned a lot of what goes on to child development and early childhood education. I had spent many years babysitting with a much more lax approach based on what I learned in my own experience, and in this experience, it was great to get more learnings through more traditional book learnings and learning directly from early childhood educators.  So much thought and care goes into teaching a child and watching them develop, and I met a lot of families that plan out childcare very differently. It inspired me to find a way to create a seamless to communicate all those exciting changes in the various ways families work. Families come in all shapes and sizes.
